Four cigars worth considering

Four cigars worth considering

At 3Js Cigar Emporium Wellington, we had the privilege of tasting Drew Estate’s Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented cigar. This is a brand new cigar launched by Drew Estates and will be available at 3Js Cigars shortly. The Pappy (as we affectionately call this iconoclastic new smoke at 3Js) is a handmade premium cigar produced in small batches in Esteli, Nicaragua. It features Kentucky seed and grown tobacco that was first fire cured and then barrel fermented. It is a smooth smoking blend which includes a barrel fermented tapa negra wrapper over a Mexican San Andreas base wrapper, along with aged Nicaraguan filler tobaccos.

It is a medium to full smoke that never lets up in its bold flavor. In fact, one can actually taste the smooth and smoky bourbon experience that Pappy Van Winkle bourbons are famous for. It is well crafted with an easy draw providing a bounty of flavor on the palate. The cigars are packaged in 10 count boxes and available in two sizes, Robusto 5.25 x 52 and Toro 6 x 54. The Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented cigar by Drew Estates is not to be missed. Another homerun of a smoke by the genius behind Drew Estates. A cigar for the ages.

Rocky’s new San Andreas Vintage 2006 is a home run. This cigar is bold and rich in flavor. Hints of dark chocolate and spice round out this tremendous addition to the Rocky Patel line up. The blend uses an 11 year old Mexican wrapper from the San Andreas region of the country. It has a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar is a medium to full bodied smoke, but is not overpowering.
In the taste testing of this cigar, it burned well with a firm ash, and the draw was perfect. The San Andreas Vintage 2008 is certainly a box worthy addition to your humidor.
The San Andreas Vintage 2006 comes in four sizes: Robusto (5 ½ x 50); Toro (6 ½ x 52); Churchill (7 x 48); Sixty (6 x 60).

Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut

This Connecticut-seed wrapped cigar is a long awaited addition to the 20th Anniversary line. We fired one up at 3Js Cigar Emporium to try it out. This cigar is rich and creamy with an even burn throughout. Being barrel aged, it has a slight spice with a natural sweetness that lends to its complex flavor. The draw was excellent and easy, and the cigar was well constructed. Besides the Connecticut-seed wrapper, which is grown in Ecuador, this great smoke’s fillers and binder are grown in Nicaragua.

We smoked the Gordo (6 x 60) sized version of this cigar, but it also comes in Epicure (toro), Robusto, Churchill, and torpedo sizes.

This, without a doubt, is one of Perdomo’s best and a excellent tribute celebrating 20 years.

H. Upmann by A.J. Fernandez

At 3Js Cigar Emporium at the Wellington, Florida location, we smoked the new H. Upmann cigar by A. J. Fernandez. This is a bold cigar that is medium to full bodied, but not heavy on the palate. This new addition to the H. Upmann line is a full flavored smoke with a consistent draw. The cigar is well constructed without any flaws or blemishes on the wrapper. It has a naturally sweet flavor with hints of almond.
The H. Upmann by A.J. Fernandez blends a beautiful Ecuador Sumatra wrapper along with a Corojo 99 binder and Criollo 98 and Pilito Cubano filler. It is a fine cigar handmade in the Esteli, Nicaragua that you will want to make a mainstay in your personal humidor. This beauty comes in three sizes: Churchill (7 x 54); Toro (6 x 54) and Robusto (5 x 52). All sizes come in 20 count boxes.

All four cigars we reviewed and enjoyed are or will be available for purchase at any of the 3Js Cigar Emporium locations: Wellington, Boca, or Davie Florida. Come on in and enjoy a fabulous smoke!
